Bruntwood’s Leeds office space to be turned into a hotel
Bruntwood is a family owned commercial lettings company with offices in the North and Midlands, and has today announced the 45,000 sq ft letting of Hepworth Point, which was acquired by WSB Property Consultants LLP on behalf of Whitbread Plc.
Planning permission has just been secured to convert the 10-floor office property into a 131-bedroom Premier Inn hotel. The hotel is due to be completed in Spring 2012, and will create around 50 new jobs.
The development of Leeds city centre
Hepworth Point is located on Claypit Lane, on the northern edge of Leeds city centre. It stands opposite the Leeds Arena development, which is under construction and is set to open in 2013.
Bruntwood’s head of sales and development Craig Burrow commented: “Hepworth Point was never used as a hotel despite the fact that the development was first designed as one. This is a fantastic opportunity to return the building to its intended use as well as make a contribution to the Leeds Arena project, which we have been an active participant in planning.”
The Next retail group famously established their Leeds headquarters in Hepworth Point, which was originally designed by architect John Poulson. Poulson also designed City House, another 120,000 sq ft Bruntwood acquisition in Leeds, where renovation plans were recently unveiled for the iconic building that stands directly above the train station. City House is intended to provide high specification, sustainable office space to rent.
Investing in Bruntwood’s Leeds office space
Mr Burrow added: “We’ve recently submitted a planning application for the renovation of City House; this is due to our commitment to increasing our offering in Leeds and providing the city’s businesses with perfect office space. We’re now actively searching for potential opportunities to acquire further Leeds office space, as our clients continue to respond positively to the Bruntwood way of doing business.”
Kevin Murray, Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants senior acquisition manager, said: “We’re excited about the new plan to bring Premier Inn to Hepworth Point. Near to the new Leeds Arena, the hospital and university, it’s the perfect location for a hotel, not to mention a development of outstanding quality. It’s positive news for Premier Inn that we will be integral to the future fabric of Leeds, and great news for our customers.”
